Rehabilitation

The University of Illinois Medical Center (UIMC) rehabilitation team treats all sorts of disabilities brought on by every imaginable cause.  Our staff is committed to helping people achieve their goals; whether those goals are to walk again, cook a meal for their family, or return to work or hobbies pain free.  The rehabilitation staff at UIMC have the skills, experience, and specialized knowledge to address each individual need.  Our main goal is to provide intensive and comprehensive rehabilitation services so our patients and their families leave feeling restored and ready for living.

Our Services

Inpatient Rehabilitation Program

Our inpatient rehabilitation program is an essential component of the continuum of care provided by the University of Illinois Medical Center.  Combining the best in rehabilitation, the best in nursing care, and the best in medical management for our patients, the rehabilitation center of excellence helps to treat a wide range of  diagnoses related to neurological, orthopedic and complex medical issues.

The Rehabilitation Unit is located on the 5 East Nursing Unit of the University of Illinois Medical Center.  We have 18 inpatient beds dedicated exclusively to acute inpatient rehabilitation.  Therapy takes place in patient rooms, in designated therapy areas on 5 East Nursing Unit, and in an extensive rehabilitation facility on the Concourse Level of the hospital that includes a simulated living environment, working kitchen and body weight support treadmill training system.

Outpatient Physical and Occupational Therapy

The goal of our outpatient physical and occupational therapists is to directly address the problems that are interfering with your ability to perform activities important to you.  We also want to make sure you know how to prevent future problems.  Whether your goal is to walk again, to get back to work, or to get back to your sport; our physical and occupational therapists will show you how to get there.

From prosthetic training to pediatric developmental evaluation, we offer one of the broadest ranges of physical and occupational therapy services in the country.  Without access, though, our services would be useless.  We designed our facilities and office hours to meet the needs of the community.

*Our outpatient facility is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday; and 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

*Therapy patients or anyone with special needs can access our gym in the evening.  Equipment includes an accessible universal workout station.  (please call ahead if this is your first time to set up orientation)

             * Our therapeutic pool, one of only a handful of Chicago, features accessible entry, three different depths and resistance jets.  The therapeutic benefits of a warm water pool can help you stand despite weakness, move despite painful joints and provide different levels of resistance or assistance to help with strengthening weak muscles.

Call 312-355-4394 to schedule your first outpatient appointment.  A physician’s referral is required.
