Surgical and Transplant Services

At the University of Illinois Medical Center we are dedicated to providing the highest level of care to patients with medical surgical needs. Using the latest technology paired with extremely dedicated healthcare professionals, we take great pride in the clinical, educational and research services we provide.

Every patient is important to us, whether we provide a simple surgical intervention or an extremely complex procedure for high-risk surgical patients. Our focus is always on helping you achieve your best level of health.

Minimally Invasive & Robotic Surgery

UIMC surgeons are recognized experts and pioneers in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. Our focus on minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgery is important because of the many advantages for patients including:
-Smaller incisions
-Reduced blood loss and need for transfusions
-Reduced post-operative pain
-Shorter hospital stays
-Minimal scarring
-Fewer post-operative complications, including reduced risk of infection
-Shorter recovery time, with most patients returning to daily activities in days rather than weeks
-Significantly reduced time between surgery and additional therapy such as chemotherapy

In addition to the prostate surgery and women's gynecological surgeries, our expert team performs robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery of the pancreas, lung, esophagus, colon, stomach, liver, gall bladder and kidney, including the removal of cancerous tumors of the lung and pancreas.

Transplantation

The Division of Transplant Surgery at the University of Illinois Medical Center is a renowned program that provides state-of-the-art kidney, liver, pancreas, small bowel, and islet cell transplantation services.

Recently, our surgical outcome statistics reported were the best in the City of Chicago despite the complexity of our case mix.

The Department of Hepatology at the University of Illinois Medical Center serves the community with the diagnosis and treatment of liver diseases including hepatitis B and C, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cirrhosis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, liver cancer, and cirrhosis. Our goal is to provide outstanding care and improved quality of life for our patients and their families.
