Nurse-Midwives

Certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) are licensed health care providers educated in nursing and midwifery. Nurse-midwifery care encourages women to participate in their care. Nurse-Midwives work in collaboration with obstetrician/gynecologists from the University of Illinois Medical Center.

Family Medicine

We are pleased to offer family medicine services by a board-certified family medicine physician. The focus of family medicine is to prevent, identify, and treat common problems such as diabetes, hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, depression, and many others. The physician is focused on how the patient’s health is influenced by her family and community. The goal of the family physician is to treat the entire family, so all ages are welcome. Services include:

• General adult exams
• Gynecologic exams
• Screening for elevated blood sugar
• Blood pressure screening
• Skin treatments
• Minor surgery
• Physicals
• Vaccines
• Well child and sick child exams
• Counseling

• Counseling in health maintenance and
  disease prevention
• Physical examination
• Screening tests, including pap smear
• All contraceptive options available
• Sexually transmitted disease screening
  and treatment
• Referrals if needed to women’s health specialists
• Free walk-in pregnancy testing

For the Pregnant Woman

Woman-focused prenatal care that allows time to answer questions and address concerns.

Individualized pregnancy care and birth options. University of Illinois Medical Center Family Birth Place provides the site for a midwifery birth in an academic perinatal medical center.
Full range of comfort measures including:

• Water therapy
• Personal labor support
• Massage
• Epidurals if needed
• Opportunity for VBAC (Vaginal Birth after Caesarean)
