Blood Bank Volunteer ProgramThere is a volunteer program at the Blood Donor Center. Volunteers in the blood bank will learn about and assist in the basic functions of a hemotherapy center. Duties will be tailored to the interests and abilities of the individual volunteer. Possible duties include: assisting in the development of the blood and platelet donor program through recruitment and retention efforts; assisting in blood drives conducted on the East and West campuses of the university; providing assistance, comfort, and transport to patients; support for special projects. Select volunteers may be trained to screen blood donors (take vital signs, hematocrit testing, blood typing) depending on experience and ability. These duties depend on the eagerness of the volunteer to learn and serve. There is an interview, volunteer orientation, and health screening required if you are considered for the volunteer program.
