The Division of Transplant Surgery at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago is a renowned program that provides state-of-the-art kidney, liver, pancreas, small bowel, and islet cell transplantation services. Established in 1968, the department’s pioneer spirit has sustained the Medical Center’s transplant program for 40 years, motivating unique and advanced procedures that stand as landmarks in the history of transplantation.

State-of-The-Art Facilities
The University of Illinois Medical Center offers the first transplant intensive care unit (ICU) in the city of Chicago that is designed to provide a comfortable atmosphere for our transplant patients. The ICU is staffed with critical care specialists in organ transplantation who ensure the patient’s medical needs are met throughout the entire transplant process. Located on the 7th floor of the Medical Center, the transplant ICU is designed to provide outstanding care, incorporating the latest medical advances.
In the fall 2007, the University of Illinois Medical Center opened a new transplant clinic. The out patient facility centralizes all transplant services provided by the transplant team. Located near the hospital, this state-of-the-art clinic offers patients a private and patient-centered approach to care.
