Pancreas Transplant

The pancreas transplant program is dedicated to providing optimal healthcare to its patients.  Pancreas transplant is indicated when patients with type 1 diabetes develop complications affecting their eyesight and nerves or their sugar levels can not be properly controlled.  The University of Illinois Medical Center is one of two medical centers in Illinois that offers pancreas transplant alone for patients who have not yet reached kidney failure.

Kidney-Pancreas Transplant

Our kidney-pancreas transplant program is dedicated to providing optimal healthcare to its patients. Pancreas-kidney transplantation is offered at our institution in cases where the patient has Type I diabetes and also suffers from kidney failure. Our Medical Center also is one of the nation's leaders in offering living-related kidney-pancreas transplants.

Small Bowel Transplant

Our small bowel transplant program offers the world's leading experience with living-related small bowel transplantation in a single institution.  Our team is dedicated to providing optimal healthcare to its patients. The information here will help patients and their families better understand the complete process of small bowel transplantation.

Islet Transplant

The islet cell transplant program is dedicated to the treatment of patients with Type 1 diabetes through cell (islet) replacement therapy.  Our team isolates islets from a human donor’s pancreas in a state-of-the-art islet isolation facility. The islets are evaluated and only islets that meet quality standards are transplanted into the patient.

Dialysis Access

Hemodialysis access is an integral part of the treatment for kidney failure.  Before hemodialysis treatment can be done, blood needs a way to leave and return to the patient.  This is called Access. Hemodialysis access is created by our transplant surgeons.
