Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery

Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery

The Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery focuses on the surgical treatment of conditions affecting organs in the chest, heart, lungs, ribs, esophagus and diaphragm. This includes:

  • Adult cardiac surgery
  • Pediatric cardiac surgery
  • General thoracic surgery
  • Cardiothoracic organ transplantation

In addition to the excellent clinical training, active and productive research is carried out by members of the faculty, including studies focused on myocardial protection, cardiopulmonary preservation, and lung cancer molecular genetics. A two year, fully accredited residency training program in cardiothoracic surgery is offered and requires certification, or eligibility for certification, by the American Board of Surgery.
