Patient Benefits

The advantages of robotic surgery are:

  • Small incisions. As you can see from the photo, the size of the incision made to fit the surgeon hand is much bigger from the one made to fit the surgical tools used with robotic surgery and this means that only small incisions (up to 1.5 inc.) are performed. This translates with the following advantages.
  • Reduced blood loss no need for transfusion. Small incisions mean: reduced blood loss, the immune system does not suffer, and this type of surgery could be an option for those religions that do not approve transfusions.
  • Reduce post-operative pain. Because of the tiny incisions and the small surgical tools, the pain related to the surgery is far less than the traditional open surgery.
  • Shorter hospital stays. The overall experience is less traumatic consequentially the recovery is faster than the open surgery.
  • Minimal scarring. Tiny incision translates with minimal scarring.
  • Fewer post-operative complications, including reduced risk of infection. Because of the small surgical tools and the small incisions, there is less possibility for the body to develop infection.
  • Can return to daily activities much faster-day instead of weeks.  Obviously, with the less traumatic surgery experience, you can return to your daily activities soon.
  • Significantly reduce time between surgery and additional therapy i.e. chemotherapy
