Hospital Dentistry

The Hospital Dentistry Clinic within The Craniofacial Center provides for the oral health needs of patients at The University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center. Inpatients with acute dental needs such as oral pain, decay, or gum disease are referred by their doctor for treatment. Geriatric patients and those with complex medical problems are also seen for management/treatment of their dental needs.

All patients who are to undergo organ transplant surgery are screened and treated for potential sources of oral infection prior to their surgery in order to minimize the chance for transplant rejection.

Those patients who are going to receive radiation therapy for a tumor of the oral cavity or head and neck or chemotherapy receive education as to the oral and dental side effects of this tumor treatment. Each patient undergoes a comprehensive oral evaluation and dental treatment prior to therapy. They also receive instruction on how to minimize these side effects and maintain oral health during and after their tumor therapy.
