Fast Facts - Allergy

Why do allergies flare up during certain times of the year and why are there so many varying symptoms from person-to-person?  The first thing to know is that there is a difference between, chronic nasal and sinus problems and nasal allergies.  Symptoms of a more serious nasal and sinus problem include:

  • Nasal drainage/discharge
  • Postnasal drainage
  • Congestion
  • Facial pain/pressure
  • Coughing
  • Headache
  • Dental pain
  • The symptoms that indicate nasal allergies include:
  • Sneezing
  • Nasal itching
  • Episodic nasal congestion or blockage
  • Itchy, watery eyes
  • Itchy ears
  • Scratchy throat
  • Hoarseness

Worsening of symptoms in certain settings – working in the garden, walking outside, when the trees or flowers are blooming, seasonal, housecleaning, dusty spaces, damp places,

Uncontrolled nasal problems can have an impact on and potentially lead to sinus problems.
