Family Medicine Center Opening in University Village

The University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago announced it will open a new Family Medicine Center at University Village on July 3.

The new center is located at 722 W. Maxwell St., 2nd Floor.

"The new Family Medicine Center and Pharmacy at University Village represent the medical center's commitment to providing accessible, high quality primary care to a new community that includes students, faculty and staff, residents of University Village and the broader Pilsen neighborhood," said Dr. Patrick Tranmer, professor and head of family medicine at UIC. "It is very consistent with our departmental mission of providing a culturally sensitive medical home to the people we serve."

The Family Medicine Center will provide the same advanced access, patient-centered approach UIC offers in the Outpatient Care Center, 1801 W. Taylor St. Patients coming to either center can expect to be seen within 24-48 hours for new patient appointments, follow-up, physical and annual gynecological exams.

Patient convenience is central to the design of the new center. The UIC Village Pharmacy is located just down the hall from the Family Medicine Center.

The center will be staffed by physicians, residents and nurse-practitioners from UIC's department of family medicine and will include an array of services, including:

• Sick and wellness visits for children
• Family planning and pregnancy care
• Chronic disease management
• Nutrition and diabetic counseling
• STI, HIV, AIDS care and counseling
• Acute injury and illness care
  

The center will provide patient support, wellness club and education programs in addition to more traditional patient care.

The Family Medicine Center operates by appointment only:

• Monday, Tuesday, Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Wednesday, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
• Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 7:30 p.m.
• Saturday, 9 a.m. – noon.

The new Family Medicine Center has an attached parking structure. Transportation to the new center includes a nearby CTA Blue Line train stop and the Roosevelt Road and Halsted Street bus lines.
