Specialists Dedicated to Diagnosis, Treatment and Study of Digestive Diseases
Welcome to the Section of Digestive Diseases and Nutrition at the University of Illinois Medical Center at Chicago. Our group is composed of physicians and scientists involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and study of patients with diseases of the liver and gastrointestinal (GI) tract. This includes the treatment of, and research into, diseases affecting the esophagus, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, small and large intestine (colon), and rectum.

Our Services
The Digestive Diseases and Liver Center houses subspecialty programs, to provide a continuum of care for you. The five programs dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment and study of digestive and liver diseases include:
- General Gastroenterology. We see patients with heartburn, reflux, irritable bowel, swallowing disorders, chronic diarrhea, rectal incontinence and inflammatory bowel disease including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
- Colorectal Screening. Using in-depth personal interviews, family history, physical examination, state-of-the-art screenings and therapeutic intervention, we provide comprehensive and integrated care for colorectal cancer patients and their families.
- Esophageal Disorders
- GI Oncology. We have an interdisciplinary approach to the diagnosis of cancers of the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, liver and colon (GI cancers) by gastroenterologists, radiologists and surgeons.
- Pancreaticobiliary. We have the latest technology and most advanced practitioners of Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) supported by one of the best therapeutic radiology groups in the United States. Our physicians are expert in non-surgical and minimal-surgery approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of gallstones, biliary strictures, tumors and pancreatitis.
