Colorectal Screening
Specialists Dedicated to Diagnosis and Treatment of Colorectal Cancer
The Colorectal Screening Program at the Digestive Diseases and Liver Center focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of colon and rectal disorders, including the early detection and treatment of colorectal cancer.
We offer an individualized approach to the screening and treatment of patients at risk of colorectal cancer. Patients in the following categories have been identified as having an increased risk for the development of colorectal cancer and should undergo some form of screening depending on their individual degree of risk.
- High Risk
Individuals with known, defined genetic syndromes including:
- Hereditary adenomatous polyposis syndromes (i.e., FAP, Gardner's, Turcot's)
- Hereditary non-polyposis colorectal cancer (i.e., Lynch syndromes I and II)
- Intermediate Risk
Individuals with the following family histories or who carry the following diagnoses:
- Strong family history (1 or more family members with colon cancer or age of diagnosis before the age of 50)
- Longstanding inflammatory bowel disease
- History of previous colonic polyps or previously resected colon cancer
- Low (Average) Risk
- Age greater than 50, without any family history of colon cancer

The Center also provides the ability to treat internal hemorrhoids non-surgically by using infra-red ablation therapy. This is routinely performed in an out-patient setting. |
