Our Services

Kidney Transplant

Our Kidney Transplant surgeons are experts in living donor transplants where a healthy kidney is taken from a living donor and transplanted into the patient with failing kidneys. Indications for Kidney Transplant include: polycystic kidney disease, end stage renal failure, focal segmental glomerular sclerosis (FSGS). Our Kidney team is also successful with several types of ABO incompatible and positive crossmatch transplants where a donor may not be 100% compatible with the recipient. With extensive knowledge in immunosuppression, our team has been able to suppress common reactions to the incompatible kidney and allow for a successful transplant. Currently, our patient survival rate after kidney transplant at UIC is 97.76%, our graft survival rate is 94.78%.

Liver Transplant
The strong collaboration between our Hepatologists and our Liver transplant surgeons is key to the successful program. Patients with complex liver diseases such as Hepatocellular carcinoma and Primary sclerosing cholangitis are treated by our Hepatologists in the Bobby & Marvin Fink Liver Clinic. When transplant is necessary, the team provides the same individualized care to ensure a successful outcome. The Patient Survival Rate at UIC after Liver transplant is 91.67%,

Pancreas Transplant
Pancreas transplant is necessary for individuals who have brittle Type 1 diabetes and develop complications affecting their eye sight and nerves or their sugar levels cannot be properly controlled. The team offers Pancreas Transplant alone for individuals who have not yet reached kidney failure and simultaneous kidney-pancreas transplant to individual with diabetes and end stage renal disease.

Pancreas Islet Transplant
The Medical Center offers a state-of-the-art islet isolation facility. This facility is considered by experts in the field to be one of the best in the world. This program offers new opportunities and approaches for the treatment of Type I and surgically induced diabetes.

Patient Expectations

The intensive transplant process, no matter which program our patient is part of, requires commitment and specific courses of action. As part of the continuum of care, a nurse transplant coordinator is assigned to each patient to guide the patient every step of the way. Each patient will be provided with information on the Transplant process and our team stands ready to explain any question or concern to assist the patient in working through any obstacle or barrier the individual may encounter.
